Emily Blincoe
Personal Background
Emily Blincoe was born on September 2,1980 in Austin , Texas. While enjoying her time on the road traveling the country with her dogs, she finds her home in Nashville, Tennesse. Emily's whole family lives in Austin so she carries those southern roots with her as she travels. Around the age of 22 is when Emily was introduced to a film camera while living with her brother. A few years later she bought a point and shoot camera. Then, started taking photos of where she was, and what she was doing as a way to keep the memory. Emily's next project was to started to do a 365 days self portrait project and quickly realized that the camera was not quite giving me the freedom to create what she wanted. So she saved up and bought myself my first "real" full-frame camera, beginning her journey for the following years.

Style
Emily's style varies from showing lots of deep, emotional value to random colletctions that she has. The pictures often consist of lots of bright colors and she uses a white background or touch to add in contrast. Her pictures are very light and welcoming, rather than being darker with a almost scary feeling. This style has also been recognized by many large companies such as Target and Gap who asked her to create arrangments of their products to photograph. Her following on instagram has also changed her style, while scrolling through her feed she would see ideas and then take that feeling and/or idea and turn then create something similar.

Philosphy
The major ideas behind Emily Blincoe's work is she wants to photograph her memories so she can remeber them forever. Trying to convey the feeling that when you pick up one of her images you will be rushed into the memory behind it. Many of her images shows that she feels she created herself, that they aren't going into society's box. As she said "we are all changing and growing and moving along, and a photo holds a place in time that can always be looked back upon.". Emily's work was more social than anything, she wanted to show the beauty in the ordinary.
Influences
Emily Blincoe showed me a different side of photography than I am used to. The pictures she takes are solely to capture the moment, she shows no stress while taking them and they are very light. In my recent photography I wanted to incorprate her tips and her style to. She was never really influenced by a certain photographer, but more so her friends and people she surronds herself with. Some of these people included Jimmy Marble, Paul Octavious, and Billy Jack Brawner III.

Yellow Collection (Bustos)
Emily's photo had a warmer tone that mine did, I tried to achieve that lighting in editing and in my home. Also, mine is a little more different because I don't own the exact same items as Emily has in her photo. Eleanor (Bustos)
For this photo Emily had a brighter background and it looks more natural. For me I was recreating a picture so I had to find ways for my dog to stay still, I also had a darker background because of our furniture. My dog is also laying towards the right, while Emily's is laying towards the right. I was able to drap a blanket on top of my dog so that I could recreate Emily's dog's pose. Fries Collection (Bustos)
The Fries collection was the hardest picture out of the three to recreate. Overall I was pretty proud of the outcome and I think it shows my skill with using photopea and that I know how to change the background. Emily's had more fries, I had a limited amount, also I had to edit the background while she had a physical teal background. |
Artist Statement
For the Fries Collection I had to use the Lasso tool to select each frie, the ketchup, and the "What-a-burger" bag that I made. After that I used the paint bucket to fill in the background with a teal color. For the Yellow Collection I searched my house for yellow correlating objects, I then set them up in a similar way to Emily's, however, some objects were not exact. For the Eleanor picture I used my dog Lucy when she was sleeping, I threw a blanket on top and put food infront of her mouth so she would stick her tounge out. This picture is my favorite just because I think it's so cute. I have maybe 100 pictures of Lucy know because it took a lot of different angles to get a perfect shot, I also had to play with the lighting in my house and in Photopea because I had to get a more whited out background like Emily's.
